Im using Illustrator CS4 on windows 7, and i have just 1 question. i have been using the pen tool to sort of outline a jpg image, to give it almost a cel shaded look. I've locked the background image (the source image im tracing with a clipping mask) and have a second layer which is where i have been using the pen to make outlines. I then went to use the paintbrush and found that it always has the circle with a line through it signifying that for some reason the brush tool is not able to be used. I for the life of me can't figure out why, and i'm very very frustrated because all i want to do is use the paintbrush to make some small changes, and my only current option is the pencil tool which is not what i want. any ideas?
I don't follow. Just like the rest of AIs tools, the paintbrush is vector based. You cannot use it to touch up your photo or whatever. If otehr layers are locked, simply create a new one to place color blobs with teh brush.
1. Are you trying to use the paintbrush on the locked jpg layer, on the layer you've used the pen on, on a third layer?
2. Do you actually HAVE a brush to paint with that you've selected before trying?
3. What are you trying to "make some small changes" IN? The jpg? The vector path? Something else?
You see YOU may have just 1 question. But WE have many if we're to answer....
