Hello, I'm a Internet Tax Attorney Speaker. I create my own books for my classes, at the bottom I state that my books have Larry Stein Copyrights 20XX.. I email my books scanned in a regular pdf format. I have encountered people who are printing and using my books more than once and using my the information in a unauthorized manner. I wanted to know what can I do to keep track of my books.. to know who opens the files and how many time.. if I can put a restrictions on how many time they can open the file.. and know that they can just be stealing my information... I'm new to my CS3 so I was hoping someone can guide me in the right direction.
Not only shout you add that data to the bottom of the page, but you should also edit the properties and add a custom field for the copyright and provide the copyright information in the 'Additional MetaData' fields. This will allow you to embed contact information and additional information that the casual abuser might not be aware of and if you find that persons files, you can show that this person tried to circumvent your rights. You might also consider signing the PDFs to provide a way to show the PDF was modified after distribution.
You can also embed the name of each student into the pdf. If you can determine who gave away your copy, you will have proof.
