Keep InDesign CS3 while installing CS4

    JWH-NIRC Community Member

I need to keep InDesign CS3 on my PC for compatability with colleagues, but want to upgrade to CS4. Can I keep them both? (One of our printers wants some things in CS2, and that is also on my computer and working fine.)

I am upgrading from my CS3 stand-alone to a CS4 stand-alone. Incidentally, also have the Web Standard CS4 Suite installed (does not include inDesign), which has caused no problems with using the stand-alone CS3 of InDesign.

Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to have to disable or remove CS3.

Installing upgrades has no affect on the older version with the exception of Acrobat.

Keep in mind that if you have the suite you must upgrade the entire suite, you can't upgrade individual components.

I have InDesign CS3 and CS4 Standalone installed on my desktop PC at home along with CS4 Web Premium. No issues.

Wow! That's what I call a fast response. Thanks.

But now that I have you both, there is a subsidiary question. I run the Japanese version of InDesign CS3 on another computer (it will not install in English Windows, even with Windows 7 Ultimate fully configured to Japanese input as default) with the Japanese version of Windows 7. I am wondering if I can install the Engish version on that computer as well. This would allow me to keep the CS4 English on my English system and remove the license for CS3 to the Japanese computer, which would be really nice.

I have the impression both use the same subdirectory name, and there is no choice in installing InDesign to change that, so my guess is that this will not work. Unless there is a workaround, Adobe will either have to find a way to allow multiple language editions to exist on the same computer, or integrate all the language versions into a single InDesign. Or have I missed something?
