Hit the data service url directly from a browser, if possible.
Try to get some xml that is encoded normally.
Try switching to resultFormat="text", trace the string, and paste it into something that will give you more info on the xml.
Ok, changing it to text instead of e4x seemed to get rid of that problem...
Now I'm having trouble with the my local database... but I'll open up a new question for that one.
That was a debug technique. Paste the xml text into something that will tell you where the problem is, then fix the xml.
Then set the resultFormat="e4x".
That was right.
Apparently my PHP page had a small error that only popped up when the page was called by the app, and not when I called it with the browser.
