1. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
Bill Hunt Jan 20, 2010 4:14 PM (in response to pcford)Here are the things that I would check first:
Video driver - is it the very latest?
OpenGL - what are the settings?
Hardware Acceleration - if min. set to max. If max, set to min. It this helps, then increment, until it fails and go back one.
Good luck,
Hunt
BTW - what is the source footage, as that can cause issues too?

2. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
Matt Petersen Jan 20, 2010 4:17 PM (in response to pcford)not a lot of info there, but I'll splash back some initial ideas:
- what sort of footage are you working with? if you're on HDV or AVCHD, your machine might be choking.
- have you tried changing the Playback quality? if it's on draft, change it to full, if it's on full, change it to draft, and see what happens.
- last but not least, many of the times I have come across the "video won't play" issue on the various machines I have to work on, the issue is SOMETIMES sound-related. Go into your Audio settings (under preferences) and check all is as it should be. maybe even try tweaking the ASIO settings on your sound card if you can.

3. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
pcford Jan 20, 2010 4:57 PM (in response to pcford)Dual monitor setup. I disabled one monitor but that did not make a difference.
Thanks guys.
It's plain old dv DV...Capturing off of a sony dsr-11. The only weird thing that I have seen is that the playback settings will not stay on accellerated gpu...under project settings/general/playback settings. Will not stay on standard either....always fall back to compatible.
Will be leaving working shortly will check in later.

Bill Hunt Jan 20, 2010 5:17 PM (in response to pcford)Thanks for the info on the source footage. I think we can rule that out.
Now, how about the other suggestions: video driver, OpenGL and Hardware Acceleration? Any luck there?
Good luck,
Hunt

5. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
pcford Jan 20, 2010 11:01 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Change hardware acceleration. No effect.
graphic acceleration will not stay chosen in Premiere goes to Compatible.
Will update driver tomorrow.
Did I mention that it won't play on NTSC monitor when I play program monitor.
This happened on my home computer...don't remember the solution....

7. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
pcford Jan 21, 2010 9:59 AM (in response to Matt Petersen)Ok, I have fiddled with playback quality and sound settings. No improvement there.
I updated the drivers for the Nvidia Quadro NVS-285. Now the accelerated GPU radio button in playback setting will stay chosen instead of popping over to conpatible. But no improvement in main problem.
The main thing I have discovered is that if you turn off the DSR-11, the program monitor will play fine. I have attempted to check if there is a problem with a setting in the deck but nothing is obvious.
Thanks for any further ideas. Googling in general and on Adobe does not turn up anything.

8. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
Matt Petersen Jan 21, 2010 2:42 PM (in response to pcford)ah right. so you could go to Playback Settings and disable "Desktop Video Display During Playback" and see if that fixes it, though I guess that's only a workaround. As to why that is... unsure. Is the Audio setting in that pane desktop or External Audio Device?

9. Re: Program Monitor Stops after a Couple Seconds CS3
pcford Jan 25, 2010 8:49 AM (in response to Matt Petersen)Still no solution. I brought my own DSR-11; it works on my home/office set-up. No difference...from that I presume the the problem is in the computer or firewire...the firewire cable works at home.
Matt, I tried disabling desktop video...no difference. Audio setting is to desktop
Another tidbit...when the audio is switched to external playback does not work at all when the deck is on.
I will call a local video editing computer builder when they open...
