    Open New Browser Window Behavior

    rjay60 Level 1
      I have set a behavior in Dreamweaver CS3 to open a new browser window to a set size and to only show scroll bars if needed. I have left all other attributes unchecked. This works fine in all browsers including IE6 but IE7 ignores all my settings and just opens a normal full size browser window showing scroll bars, address bar, menus etc. Can anyone tell me how to make IE7 open a new browser window to my settings using the behaviors in Dreamweaver CS3?

      Thanks.
      Russ.

              I cannot reproduce this in IE7. Your OBW behavior works just the way you
              want for me. In your code, make sure that this is all on one line -

                rjay60 Level 1
                Thanks for your reply. I have checked and the code is all on one line, yet IE7 ignores all the attributes that I set in the open browser window behavior. I made a new page with no CSS rules applied to the page. I made an open new browser window behavior. I set the window size to 640 x 480 and left all attributes unchecked.

                Test page code:

                <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" " http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
                <html xmlns=" http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
                <head>
                <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
                <title>Untitled Document</title>
                <script type="text/javascript">
                <!--
                function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) { //v2.0
                window.open(theURL,winName,features);
                }
                //-->
                </script>
                </head>

                <body onclick="MM_openBrWindow(' http://www.adobe.com','','width=640,height=480')">Open test window
                <p> </p>
                </body>
                </html>

                IE7 just ignores my settings and just opens a new window with scroll bars and everything else yet FireFox, Safari for windows, IE6 and Opera all open a new window as set in my behavior. This is a real strange one if it works OK in IE7 for you. I will take the code with me to work tomorrow and try it on a pc running IE7 and see what happens there.

                Russ.

                  Check your IE options. Do you have it set to open popups in a new tab?

                    Murry,

                    When you tried my code were you using a PC running Windows XP? The reason I ask this is because I tride my code at work today on an XP machine running IE7 and it worked just fine, it opened the new window to the size I had set in my behavior and it followed all of my attribute settings. I then tried it on two seperate Vista machines and as on my PC which is also running Vista, it did not work. It just opened a full size window and ignored all of my attribute settings.

                    As I have tride my code in FireFox, Safari for Windows and Opera on a Vista machine and it works fine, it seems (as strange as it sounds) that IE7 is not 100% Vista compatible!!

                    Do you have any thoughts on this or can you think of a work around I can use to make IE7 follow my behavior on Vista machines?

                    Thanks for your help so far.

                    Regards
                    Russ.

                      As I mentioned earlier, are your Browser's options set to open pop-ups in a
                      new tab?

                        Murry,

                        Thanks for your help. I think I have now found the answer to this problem. It appears that IE7 / Vista was blocking the active content because it was running locally from my machine. I have inserted the 'mark for web' code to my page from the commands menu in Dreamweaver, as suggested in another post I found. I have tested it and it now seems to work fine.

                        Thanks again for your help.

                        Russ.
