2. Re: Reducing file size for YouTube's 2 gig limits
Colin Brougham Jan 27, 2010 8:08 AM (in response to Rowby Goren)How long is your video? I believe that YouTube now caps video durations to approximately 10 minutes; if your video is longer than that, you'll have to part it out into shorter duration videos. The duration of your video determines what your bitrate has to be, which in turn determines what your filesize will be. You can then tune the bitrate to give you the maximum quality video to fall under the YouTube 2GB limit.

str4ngS Jan 27, 2010 8:14 AM (in response to Rowby Goren)Try without Matrox.
How can you say that? He didn't pay nearly $500 for his Matrox card for nothing or to waste CPU for this task.
Well, Rowby, you can lower data rate or try VBR (Variable Bit Rate) encoding instead of CBR. You can also increase GOP size, this will reduce the amount of I frames in your output video that reduces the actual size of the video. I also suggest starting a new thread at http://forum.matrox.com/compresshd/.
Cheers

4. Re: Reducing file size for YouTube's 2 gig limits
Rowby Goren Jan 27, 2010 8:15 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Hi Harm,
Thanks for the tip, but I have a number of ongoing videos that I want to use the CompressHD card for -- it speeds up the H.264 encoding considerably.
Also I need to educate myself as to what those settings will do in the HD compress dialog box:
1) Such as what is the difference levels for H.264 By default it's set to 4 (but 3 is available in the dropdown)
2) The Algorithm setting by default is CABAC. It also offers one other setting: CAVLC What are they and what do they mean.
3) The encoding type cannot be changed. It's locked in.
4) The data rate by default is set to 4 The slider can bring it up to 20 -- and as low as 1
5) Under GOP structure By default it's Simple GOP There is also available "Advanced GOP (long)" and "Advanced GOP (short)".
6) The GOP slider can give a GOP size from 4 - 128 frames
7) Finally the distance between P frames by can go from 1 to 38 via the slider.
Any thoughts, Harm, about the above settings. Or perhaps a link to a site that can educate me. (Yes I am putting this question on the Matrox CompressHD forum, but I always appreciate your expertise.
Thanks

Simple: Experience.
What you pay does not matter. The question is: Does it work? Often all kind of weird problems were caused by Matrox.

rowby Jan 27, 2010 11:31 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)HI
My videos are about 6 minuts long -- but their file size in some cases is over YouTube's 2 gig max. I would rather not cut them.
If you (or anyone here) has any links that will better explain Gobs, P frames etc, that would be helpful. (Hmmm... perhaps there are some links to tutorials on Youtube about P frames, Gobs etc.
Thanks

rowby Jan 27, 2010 11:36 AM (in response to str4ngS)Hi str4ngS,
At your suggestion, I've started a thread on the matrox compresshd forum. (That forum doesn't get much activity, but hopefully someone will add some ideas to this issue there.

And I welcome any more suggestions, comments here on the Adobe forum too...

Curt Wrigley Jan 28, 2010 9:52 PM (in response to Rowby Goren)Keeping a 6 minute video under 2G for youtube is quite easy. But you are using matrox sw that generally people round here will nothing or little about. The matrox forum would be your best bet there.
If you choose to use native Pr AME; simply choose a youtube export preset and tweek it as desired.

shooternz Jan 28, 2010 11:43 PM (in response to Curt Wrigley)I have 8 min shows on Youtube (SD) and they are less than 100mb plus 7 min (HD) shows and they are 130mb.
They were produced without a Matrox Encoder and by AME using the presets.
Forget GOP and all that mumbo jumbo...its about data rates

11. Re: Reducing file size for YouTube's 2 gig limits
Digital_Pete Aug 20, 2010 11:46 AM (in response to shooternz)When using the CompressHD, you can change the original default settings by just simply playing around with the bitrate and finding the one that best suits your desired output.
I converted some 1080 material using the Matrox YouTube preset and set the bitrate to it's smallest. I chose the 640x360 size and a 1 minute video was just under 6 MB, and the encoding came out faster as well.
