quick one: importing flash objects, accessing methods

So, someone, not me, creates an object in Flash, and saves the whole buiness as a .swf file. This Flash file is, for example, a slider control for a video player being built in an AIR application, using Flex/ActionScript.

How in the sam hill do you access the public methods defined in the Flash file actions? It seems like embedding the .swf file as an asset in the Flex app won't be helpful.

Do you use modular Flex, and create an interface to the methods in the Flash file? Do you stand on your head and blow bubbles? Run naked in the street, prophesying in a secret moon language?

Thanks for any guidance on this.
