    Changing column and page widths in 'templates'?

    Peter A. Forkes

      I'm comparatively new to Dreamweaver CS4, in OS X (Snow leopard) and CSS is an absolute bewilderment to me.

      I am using 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer template (?) (is that the right word?) and I need the width of the page to be 1024 pixels and the column to be 350 pixels wide.

      From what I can tell, I have tried EVERYTHING except for one thing.  What's the ONE THING I haven't tried?  It's whatever I have to do to make these changes!

      What are the changes that I have to make to the 'template' to make these changes to my web page?

      Thanks,

      Peter

          In your css change your container width to be 1024px (from 780px or what is default for the template)

          .twoColFixRtHdr #container {
          width: 1024px;
          background: #FFFFFF;
          margin: 0 auto;
          border: 1px solid #000000;
          text-align: left;
          }

          Next change your sidebar width to 350px

          .twoColFixRtHdr #sidebar1 {
          float: right;
          width: 350px;
          background: #EBEBEB
          padding: 15px 10px;
          }

          Finally change the right margin on the main content

          .twoColFixRtHdr #mainContent {
          margin: 0 380px 0 0;
          padding: 0 20px;

          The way margins or padding work when you want to set all four is like a clock with 12:00 being the first number and going clockwise 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 9:00.

          Top right bottom left. If you use 0, no pixels have to be specified, but if you use number, then you need to specify the units..

          That should fix it.
