High CPU Utilization with users with folder redirection

We have users whose application data folder is redirected to their personal network drive.  Whenever they open Reader, the cpu shoots up to 50% and remains there until reader is closed.  Is there any way to tell reader that the app data folder is in all users (local profile), instead of using the network based one, since there seems to be an issue with that?  anyone know why it spikes when the app data folder is on a network drive?
