What's the downside, if any, of using .htaccess redirects to shorten page URLs?

      In other words :

      Redirect     /hello          /pages/articles/2010/february/hello.php

      Redirect     /goodbye     /pages/articles/2010/february/goodbye.php

      etc.

(which forwards domain.com/hello automatically to domain.com/pages/articles/2010/february/hello.php)

The only one I can see is getting a long .access file after a while... how much of a concern should that be?
