    Help on a logo

    Sharingene Community Member

      Hello,

I am new to Photoshop in terms of using it for design purposes.  I am trying to create a simple logo for a friend which involves text only for the name of her business/ website.  The font she is using is not a typical font so I figured it was best to create it in Photoshop Elements (8).

Here's the issue, she wants the lettering to be in white so that whatever background she places the logo onto it will stand out.  Okay, so this is where the stupid question comes in... When the lettering is in white I CAN'T SEE IT against the background unless I put color behind the text, but then this background color becomes part of the image.  I am frustrated and not sure how to proceed, can some web whiz help me out?!?  Thanks so much for your help, I thought this would be simple until I got started--and I'm sure it probably is--I just have little to no experience here.  Also, what is the best format to save this in for the web?  Thanks so much for your help!!!

          1. Open any photo in the Editor.

          2. Click on the text button and set the color to white and choose the font and size.

          3. Type your text logo in the centre of the photo this creates a new text layer with the background below it.

          4. Click on the background layer to highlight it and select delete. This changes the text layer into a transparent layer - you will see the checker board effect and if you look closely your white text logo will be visible in the middle.

          5. Select save for web, choose file type GIF and select transparency.

          6. To the right of the transparency check box there is an item called “Matte Color” where you should select the background color of your friends website.

          7. Resize as necessary.

            This site is interesting:

            http://cooltext.com/

You can use it to generate a logo or just get some ideas.
