    Sharing Comments

AIR help allows reviewers to share comments so that they can all see each other's comments and the author can see them too. This requires all the reviewers and the author to be on one network so that they can see a common drive. That drive has to be specified when you create the AIR file.

Effectively that means that if you send your help to say 100 different companies, to use the same functionality you would have to generate 100 AIR files as each would have different server names and paths for the comments. That limited commenting for users to each user sending their comments to each user.

Thanks to my developer colleague, Mike Hempenstall, it is possible to generate one AIR file and send it to each of those 100 companies. With some straightforward work by their System Administrator, all users within each company with be able to share comments in the same way as reviewers. The comments will not be visible to users in other companies.

I have seen requests here for this functionality so I hope this helps.

Can i distribute AIR help for the product to my customers and point it to one site which i am hosting and allow users to comment?

Is htis easy to set up?

I suspect the issue there would be that the users would need read / write access to the folder on your site. If you do not know what is involved in that, you would need to speak to your system admin.

If it is possible, it would give all users access to all the comments that all users save Sent To Server. Is that acceptable or would you want users at Site A to see only their comments?

I am scheduling to meet with the web site admins and possibly Support too to discuss how we could host and implement this. At the moment there is the moderation issue to contend with, (as i am sure you appreciate judging by recent postings tot he RH forums) . We will probably want to closely manage comments.

Anyway, that gives me reassurance that there are no fundamental obstacles to setting this up if we decide to go down this route.

I think read / write permissions are fundamental.
