Not entirely sure of the explanation, does selecting the rectangle with the Direct Selection Tool (it must be entirely selected, all Anchor Points appearing solid, you may select it in the Layer palette/panel to make sure), enable you to get it right?

2. Re: Resize only one thing in a group
Manchuwook Feb 3, 2010 12:41 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Perhaps a visual cue will help in this: The two red stars are the complex paths, which aren't going to resize. The black rectangle resizes to blue, keeping the two red stars at the same relative position on the rectangle.
Er, EDIT: I know if the stars were the same, I could use Pattern brushes -- but imagine the two stars as two completely different vectors.
EDIT 2: To answer the question, it resizes the rectangle, but the other two vectors remain in the same position.

A simple way to do it could be to drag across the lower corners of the rectangle and the lower object (star) with the Direct Selection Tool, and then move the selection (of Anchor Points) downwards; you may use Object>Transform>Move, or use arrow keys, or click within the selection and ClickDrag.

4. Re: Resize only one thing in a group
Manchuwook Feb 3, 2010 12:52 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Essentially, resize (S) the rectangle and then reposition the corner pieces every time? There is no way to do this as a group (Ctrl+G) of objects?

5. Re: Resize only one thing in a group
Jacob Bugge Feb 3, 2010 12:59 PM (in response to Manchuwook)I am afraid so. You can DirectSelect the rectangle and resize it, then move the other part(s), but that is one step more.

6. Re: Resize only one thing in a group
Manchuwook Feb 3, 2010 1:08 PM (in response to Manchuwook)With a collection of grouped objects, there is no possible way to resize one object while retaining static dimensions (but updating dynamic positions) of the other non-resized objects in that group.
