Quicktime using the PNG codec at 100% quality is a popular lossless option.
I recently captured some HD video from cam in premier and it will only give me an mpeg file. Unfortunately this file is useless for after effects. What are the best settings i can use to convert this file with out losing quality?
What versions of the programs? AE has supported Premiere-captured MPEG forever, so I doubt you really cannot use it. If you can't, then probably something else is wrong...
I am running after effets cs4 on a pc. I shot on a Sony HDR FX1 and captured of a little Canon HD camera because the fire wire stopped working on the Sony cam. If there is a way to get this mpeg working in after effects that would be great.
Here is a link to to a pic of the message i get.
The after effects manual does not list mpeg as a supported format:
Also if you check the links below i am not the only one that experiences this problem.
Are you using the trial of After Effects? Some components are disabled in the trial due to licensing. I'd have to check to be sure, but MPEG import/export may be one of them. In AE's Import dialog, is MPEG listed in the Files Of Type drop-down menu?
Note that the sites you linked to are a couple of years (or more) old. AE and the various flavors of Premiere handle MPEG files much better now.
A Tim said, if you are using the trial, then MPEG is not available, which includes derivatives such as DV and HDV from a Premiere capture. If you have a full version and the features don't work, you may have a problem with your serial number and general licensing. This may require a re-install then...
