    Height of divs

    nemci7v Level 1

      I'm trying to understand this...

      For example I have

      #post {

            margin-bottom:30px;

      }

      and below that is a footer:

      #footer {

            height: 100px;

      }

      Now unless I give #post a height or float it left/right, it won't push the footer down 30px. I tried other properties like height:auto or display:block but it does nothing.

      I would think that the contents within #post will define the height depending how much content there is.. but that's not the case.. can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
