Yes, yes, yes, yes. All correct.
Thank you Harm,
Any suggertions that I may not be thinking of?
Thanks in advance.
At least 1 internal SATA 7200 disk.
Run the http://ppbm4.com benchmark, submit your results to Bill (or post them here or send them to me by private mail) and you will get a feel for where your system is in comparison to others. From the very limited info I have now, your first priority is getting more and faster disks. SATA is around three times as fast as firewire and will give you a huge benefit. The second step would be to upgrade to Win7-64 and increase your RAM to 8 or more GB. The third step would be to get a whole new system, so keep that option in mind when considering to add memory. Your CPU is not very fast anymore, but getting a new CPU often entails a new mobo and memory as well.
Look at the results page and specifically at the AVI results from HAF932. His D9 score is wholly caused by his disk setup. Often people forget what disk performance can do to the overall performance.
Performance is mostly dependent upon CPU, RAM and disk setup. Video card performance is (for the moment) irrelevant. But it does not pay yet with CS4 or lower to install more than 12 GB.
Just a comment... ram is memory, hard drive is storage
