          You could

          • select the Layer, Select All (command-A), copy (command-C) in the one file, switch to the other and paste (command-V)

          • with both image-windows visible drag the Layer from the one file to the other (either from the Layers Panel or with the Move Tool from the window)

Have both images open and visible. Then just drag the cut-out layer into the new background image.

Press Cmd+T to adjust size and position.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!. AS I AM VERY NEW WITH PHOTOSHOP!

                These are my issues

                1. WHen I have my cut out picture open ( large and center of screen) it also shows up to the right as a layer.  I do not know how to close or save that to bring in another picture...as when click "file to save pic, it saves it then it disappears from layer and screen.

                2.  Then when I do not try to save and open the background pic I want to insert the cut out into I get a pop-up saying will loose information of other file?  ...if I leave the first cut out picture open...so how to you get both images available?...and left open to work on them ?...so new to photoshop... sorry

                Thank you again!

Just open both documents and drag the layer you've cut out into the

                    other image window.

You are working under the impression that you can only open and edit one picture at a time in Photoshop and this just isn't the case.

In PS you can open many pictures at a time and "toggle between them" using the tabs at the top pf the window (see attached)

In the picture you are "cutting" from, make your selection and copy it, then click on the tab for the other picture, and paste.

It really is as simple as that. You can resize your pasted selection or move it around from there.

If you find the tabs confusing, and many people do, just use the Arrange Documents menu in the top bar to "float" the image windows.

Then you can drag directly from one image to another using the Move tool.

                          Josh,

I do not think I have the tabs:( as I have cs3, not cs4), that my computer guy installed for me.  What I do have is the little ps icon at the top corner of the pic when I pull up that allows me to move, resize etc?  Another person had replyed that i would copy and paste when had both images up to view...wellllllllllllllll....I did that and when I did it allowed me to copy and paste but then BOTH PICTURES TURN BLANK WHEN DO???One turned black and one white?

Honestly, once I have both pics up on the main screen ( still only the cut out show up in right hand layer workspace)....how do I SECLECT WHICH PIC I AM WORKING ON AT THE TIME?...do I right click on the pic or go up to the top select option, as that option says select all!

This has really stumped me.  I was able to do a website and cannot get this and spent alllllllllllllllllllllll weekend snowed in trying to do so.  I do really appreciate all your help.

                          THank you so much!

You need to have the composite Channel in the Channels Panel and the correct Layer in the Layers Panel selected.

Edit: … and all selected (command-A).

How about posting screenshots of Your panels and windows – maybe that could give someone a better clue as to what You are doing?

Was finally able to get both pics up for view ( with still only the cut out showing over in right hand work space as a layer), do not know if back ground pic is supposed to show as layer in workspace:)....I did copy and paste and when I did both pics turned BLANK?

Had a white box inside a Black box?  Honestly how do I SELECT the pic I am working on?  Do I right click or do I go to the top select option option as that option says ALL..and not sure I am selection correctly.  I have worked on this all weekend.  I was able to create a website and cannot get this. Am I supposed to be working from the main screen and using selctions at the top, edit , selcet et,....or working from the right hand work space where those tools are available and layers.  I so need to GET THIS?..for my website.

                                  Thank You!

                                  Did see your attachments:)

I think I am doing something wrong from the start I am a small hobby breeder of Maltese and Yorkies and want to put them in differnet backgrounds .......  I will attempt to list what I am doing and also you may go to my website at www.bluemondayexclusives.com to the female Yorkie page and see top picture to see what I am trying to accomplish.  Another person did this pic for me and I have to learn to do this myself!

                                  1. I am going into photo shop and going up to file, clicking on open and opening my cut out YORKIE pic.  At that time it appears LARGE on the main screen and also over as a layer in the workspace.

                                  2. Then I am going back up to file and open and selecting my background pic, at that time IT OPENS LARGE AND ON THE MAIN SCREEN AND COVERS UP THE ORIG CUT OUT YORKIE PIC.  I have learned to click in corner of the pic and resize so I can now see both pics.....BUT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE SCREEN YOU SENT WHERE ONE PIC IS ON THE RIGHT AND ONE IS ON THE LEFT?

                                  3.  Then I AM NOT KNOW HOW TO SELECT THE PIC I AM WORKING ON?.....I DID SEE ATTACHMENTS AND WILL WORK ON.  AT WHAT POINT AND I CLICKING ON "FLOAT"...AND HOW DO MAKE BOTH APPEAR SIDE BY SIDE ON THE MAIN SCREEN AND IS THE BACKGROUND PIC SUPPOSED TO BE SHOWING OVER IN THE WORKSPACE?

I MAYBE A LOST CAUSE AND NEED A CLASS

                                  Thank you again!

You need to have the composite Channel in the Channels Panel and the correct Layer in the Layers Panel selected.

How about posting screenshots of Your panels and windows – maybe that could give someone a better clue as to what You are doing?
