I have a 20 minute .mov file that was captured off of tape and then saved as a .mov file (a classmate did the capture and chose to save it this way). I would like to break apart the .mov file into clip files based on the time code in order to make it easier to work with. Is there a way to accomplish this with Premiere Pro? I can import the .mov, but then I have one long clip.
With FinalCut Pro you can do a Modify > DV Start/Stop Detect, and it breaks the file apart based on the camera time code. Rather than sitting in the lab at school, I would prefer to do my editing at home with Premiere Pro.
Hopefully my question is clear enough.
Pr can break into scenes automatically during capture but not against a mov file.
But, you can import it as one file and then break it into subclips in the bin; if you like.
By saving the file as a MOV file, scene detection is no longer possible based on timecode. There may be some utilities to allow splitting like HDVSplit, but better and more reliable is capturing from the original tape with scene detection.
