Are you saying you can't type into it after you click in it? You're not
showing any code that sets focus to the TextInput. Also, you may have to
use callLater to setFocus to the TextInput.
When I click on the TextInput field, that already has a string value my backspace key doesn't work, I can't delete the value. It's also inconsistent, sometime it allows me to delete the value and sometime it doesn't. If I used my back arrow I can go to the start of the TextInput field and use the delete key.
Do you also have a change event handler defined? Is there some other area of your code that updates the TextInput?
Are you using a ChangeWatcher?
Check these things.

There is no change event handle defined. The control is part of a TitleWindow that allows me to update values in my model. When I open the window and select the TextInput field I can't delete the value using the backspace. I can highlight it and delete it, I can place the cursor at the start of the string and use the delete key, but I can't use the backspace key.
