Order of layers in layers panel

      Hi

I am a bit confused by something about the layers panel in AI. On page 174 of "brilliant Illustrator CS4" by Steve Johnson it says that "the layers in the layers panel appear from top to bottom as they appear in the document window. The first layer at the top of the layers panel is the topmost layer in the document window. The last layer in the layers panel is the bottommost layer in the document window"

      That seems fairly clear.

However, when I created 3 shapes on the artboard, and created 2 new layers, and put each shape onto it's own layer, I find that the top layer in the layers panel is ls layer 3, and is actually the bottom layer in the document window, and the bottom layer in the layers panel is layer 1, which is the top layer in the document window. This appears to be the reverse sequence to that described in the book. Or am I misreading the layers?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
