I'm not a hardware expert, all I'd say is double-check the graphics card for CUDA & Mercury compatability, as I think that will be important next-version.
Presume you're going 64bit OS?
Thanks for responding...
as for CUDA & Mercury compatability, I have no idea. Yes on the 64bit.
Watch the video in the thread called "Mercury playback engine sneak peak" It eludes to the fact that significant performance improvement for hard to edit formats like avchd are possible with a few specific nvidea cards in a future Pr release. So, if you are equipping for the future you may want to pay attention to that. OR if you can wait for an official announcement from adobe of when this will be made production, perhaps additional cards will be announced.
I dont know what your budget is but I d go a min of 8G ram;d if possible a 3rd drive
The system is good, but I agree with Curt, go for 8 GB memory. Also go for three disks and consider using your existing video card for the time being, untill you know what is required for MPE. It makes no sense to invest in a new card to find it is not supported by MPE. A waste of money. Currently the bottom card to be supported is the GTX285.
Thanks guys! It's a refurb from dell so the system is already prebuilt.
Is the video card worse than what I currently have- ATI Radeon HD 4350?
The 4350 will be a nice carry over from your old system, till we really know which cards are supported by MPE. Then you can decide what you want to invest. You will be hard pressed to notice any differences with CS4, but it will be nice savings for the future if you use your old card for the time being.
