Jim Strenk Feb 12, 2010 11:25 PM (in response to alessandropetrini)What is the exact error message you're getting? Was there something within the settings that have changed?

Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 8:28 AM (in response to Jim Strenk)Ale,
be more detailed as you can.
project settings, files type mpeg avi, as Jim says, what your monitor displays as error.
The more details you get more precise answer you'll have.
Ciao from Italy too

3. Re: Trancoding problems
alessandropetrini Feb 13, 2010 11:42 AM (in response to Giorgio1957)I'll try to explain my process.
It's something very simple: I had a Premiere project, by Adobe Dynamic Link
I sent the whole project to Encore and there I set the dvd settings.
I had a Photoshop menu (that I prepared before) and a short AVI video I wanted
to use as a starting point.
the sequence was this one: project -> Avi introduction -> starting menu -> main video and
as a final action I set the project to come back to the starting menu.
The settings were the default ones for the bulding of a DVD Folder (that I wanted to burn on a DVD later).
Afterwards I tried also without the Avi introduction, without the main menu, but the error was always the
same, in italian 'transcodifica non riuscita'... I don't know the same message in English, but it could be something like
'transcoding failed'
Should I specify something more?
Thank you and have a great weekend ^_-

4. Re: Trancoding problems
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 12:03 PM (in response to alessandropetrini)Ale,
are all your movies (introduction and main one edited in PPro) .avi files? correct?
Just for a try: have you output the main video from Premiere encoding it as a "mpeg2 DVD"?
In case of succesfull transcoding you can drag 'n drop the file in Encore timeline after importing it as asset (risorsa).
Problem should (I underline should) be the main video, if I've understood this is what is crashing your En transcoding.
So, if Premiere also will crash, we had to focus this file, otherwise should be DynamicLink or other (we'll see).
Win7, if supported by proper RAM and good CPU will sure give your transcoded movie in a blink of an eye (more or less)
Let know
Ciao

5. Re: Trancoding problems
alessandropetrini Feb 13, 2010 12:21 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)I tried several ways to solve this issue:
first I used Dynamic link to send my Premiere project (but it failed)
then I tried to export all the sequence thorugh adobe media encoder
(I did it succesfully) and then imported it on Encore and I tried to do the
same as before, but it failed. This is why I can't understand which is
the step that creates this problem.

6. Re: Trancoding problems
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 12:26 PM (in response to alessandropetrini)Did you output the movie as mpeg DVD from Premiere and, in Encore, choose not transcode?

7. Re: Trancoding problems
alessandropetrini Feb 13, 2010 12:32 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)I output from Premiere both through dynamic link and media encoder (here without compression).
In Encore I used the default settings to build a DVD folder... I also tried to build a DVD disc
directly from there, but the transcoding error was the same.

8. Re: Trancoding problems
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 12:36 PM (in response to alessandropetrini)Sorry but you can transcode from
Premiere as a "ready to use" "mpeg DVD" file.
I do not mean *** uncompressed one.
Do you have the same error, in this way?

9. Re: Trancoding problems
alessandropetrini Feb 13, 2010 12:44 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)I don't know if I understood your last post... I tried to build
a DVD folder not in Premiere, but in Encore... but I'm not sure that this
was what you wanted me to tell you

10. Re: Trancoding problems
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 12:55 PM (in response to alessandropetrini)no no no,
I was meaning no DVD folder, but another file to be
dragged 'n dropped in Encore (as asset (risorsa)) to build you own folder.
This file will not need a new transcode as you'll mark "do not transcode" ( "non trascodificare")
This is just to see if the transcoding process crashes in Encore only or in both the application (Encore and Premiere)
Hope I have explained in a better way

11. Re: Trancoding problems
alessandropetrini Feb 13, 2010 1:02 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)I guess that to avoid the transcoding I should export
an Mpeg file from Premiere... is it correct?
Otherwise I need transcoding with an AVI file to be
converted into a DVD (mpeg) file.

12. Re: Trancoding problems
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 1:20 PM (in response to alessandropetrini)You HAVE to transcode anyway.
This will be made by Encore using Dynamic Link or importing as .avi file
But you can do it before with Premiere giving to Encore a "ready to burn" DVD file.
In this way we can see if this is a file problem ( it will not be trancoded anyway)
or it is an Encore problem (you'll got your mpegDVD file without crashes from Premiere).
In the second option you have to mark "do not transcode" in the transcoding option of this file.
Anyway, what you're doing is perfectly correct.
Working with uncompressed files and let them be transcoded by Encore is a good idea.
But something is not working now, and we have to know what it is (file or program).
I'm quite afraid should be the file bu, who never knows?
Isn't funny? two italians writing in english to be understood each other

13. Re: Trancoding problems
alessandropetrini Feb 13, 2010 1:23 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)Giorgio is very funny
Above all because Italians who can write in English are not so many!
I'll try to do what you adviced me. I'll do it on Monday morning because
tomorrow I'll be out working (for a wedding).
You've been very kind... thank you to you and Jim

14. Re: Trancoding problems
Giorgio1957 Feb 14, 2010 2:36 AM (in response to alessandropetrini)Never had this problem with encore, but I can say that Premiere, when a corrupted file is found, stops the transcoding process and give you an help, telling in which frame the corruption has been found.
Quite easy then to fix the problem.
Hope this helps
Giorgio
