A problem with Reader 8.2 update caused Illustrator to fail to open on my mac running os 10.4.11 . The fix for that turned out to involve replacing a file, "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, with a new file provided by Adobe here:
That fixed my immediate problem, however, now other user accounts on the same machine have to type the administrator's password before they can open Reader. In the main account, the one for the person with the administrator privileges, Reader works fine, no password needed. Is there a fix that will allow Reader to work without these inconveniences on our mac?
Never mind. I figured it out myself. It looks like I had two versions of the software. I threw out the older one. Now everything works as it should.
