We are developing a flex based reporting application. We have a critical requirement as below:
Once user selects EMAIL button in the application actions below should happen,
Step 1 - Save the displayed data as an Excel File in Windows Temporary Folder
Step 2 - Invoke local MS Outlook and show New Email with the saved file (in Step 1) as attachment
Step 3 - User will manually type the TO, CC, Subject & body of the email and then upon selecting the SEND button email should be sent using the local Exchange Server configured in MS Outlook
I understand Step 3 will happen automatically. Could any one guide us with Step 1 and 2, please.
If your app is an AIR app, you might be able to use Merapi:
But in general, you cannot connect to native applications in Flex/AIR due to security sandboxes.
You would need to send data to server and either let it send the email, or else have it push data back to the client to some other thing other than the Flex app.
