1. Re: Transitions on buttons
Ann Bens Feb 16, 2010 12:20 PM (in response to macergodt)You will have to make that in AE.
Videocopilot has a good tutroial on that subject.

2. Re: Transitions on buttons
Bill Hunt Feb 16, 2010 1:24 PM (in response to macergodt)As Ann points out, Encore cannot create them.
Most of mine are pretty simple, like going from the Main Menu to maybe the Scene Selection Menu, and these are all created in PrPro. I just do them from the .PSD's, setup with say the Button Highlighted, and dissolve to the PSD of the Scene Selection Menu, with the target Button Highlighted. If there is Audio (usually SFX of a "whoosh," etc.) I do have to Export as a muxed file, as a Button Transition cannot be a Timeline. Also, make sure that if you have Audio on your Menus and in your Button Transition, that the format/CODEC matches perfectly across all those Assets.
AE can do even more with regards to animation, but I just keep mine in PrPro, 'cause that is mainly where I'm already working.
They just cannot be created in Encore.
Good luck,
Hunt

4. Re: Transitions on buttons
cvid01 Feb 23, 2010 3:22 PM (in response to macergodt)Read your article, Bill. Am using Encore CS4 and simple dissolve button transition with no sound works just fine. I was trying to have a button transition from one menu to another. When multiplexing in PPro using MPEG2 with any sound, transition worked but the next menu did not show up. All links are the same. I usually use AC3 sound for all DVDs and menus, but when multiplexing PPro transition in MPEG DVD with AC3 sound, transition in Encore has no sound. What settings do you use in the AME multiplexer to obtain a button transition with AC3 sound? Thanks.
[NOTE: All observations were done by burning to a disc, since Encore preview is not that great]

5. Re: Transitions on buttons
Bill Hunt Feb 23, 2010 3:48 PM (in response to cvid01)I am doing this on PrPro 2.0, so AME is a different beast there. I just use MPEG-2, set the Audio to AC3 with the SurCode plug-in and Multiplexing to DVD. Worked fine for me, but I did find that if the Menu's Audio was NOT AC3, then one had to use PCM/WAV. The two Audio streams, Menu Audio and Button Transitions, had to match up exactly. I had not seen that covered in any of the literature, but then it probably does not come up that often, as one would likely use the same Audio stream specs. naturally.
Good luck,
Hunt

6. Re: Transitions on buttons
MontePorche Feb 23, 2010 5:25 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)To piggyback on this thread a bit....as I'm learning more and more about Encore, and trying to create more and more complex projects.....
I want to create a menu that plays a sound effect each time the viewers moves the selection to a different button...is this something that I would use button transitions for? I'm thinking that I would have to use a combination of duplicate menus and the auto-activate feature, playing a transition as the button auto-activates.

7. Re: Transitions on buttons
Bill Hunt Feb 24, 2010 9:19 AM (in response to MontePorche)This would be done by having dupe Menus and Button Transitions. The Buttons on the original Menu would be set to AutoActivate and be linked to the dupe Menu. One could dispense with the Sub-picture Highlights, or could incorporate them into the design.
Last set of Button Transitions that I did were very short Dissolves between the original Menu and the dupe Menu (one for each Button on the original Menu), and contained a "whoosh" SFX file. IIRC, I basically used about 12 Frames for the visuals in the Button Transition, and it matched the SFX file. The last 2 Frames of that Transition AV were of the dupe Menu with the chosen Button selected. I removed the Sub-picture Highlights in the AutoActivating Buttons on the original Menu, but created graphics to "simulate" them in the dupe Menus.
Hope that helps,
Hunt

8. Re: Transitions on buttons
cvid01 Feb 25, 2010 9:03 AM (in response to macergodt)I got the video with audio button transition to work in CS4 as follows:
1. Set AME format to MPEG2, DVD high quality;
2. Set Multiplexer to DVD setting for video, audio set to MPEG.
The button transition even worked when menus contained AC3 sound. You have to burn a disc to see if it works, because it doesn't work in the Encore preview.
Also, the transition did not work with the multiplexer audio setting to AC3.
Thanks for all you input Bill.

9. Re: Transitions on buttons
Bill Hunt Feb 25, 2010 1:35 PM (in response to cvid01)Great news. My tests were in EncoreDVD 2.0, and on the test RW, the Audio did not work, until I matched them. Sounds like there has been a little change in the later versions. Thanks for reporting.
Hunt
