its load very fast.....i think its better to try to give some movement between states.
Good to know - I didn't know about the bouncing and elastic features in catalyst - thanks!
i used transitions but it makes the loading time longer.
they complained about it so i had to remove the soft transitions..
Here's a link to my website. http://www.nakean.com The home page, portrait page and latest shoot page are all Catalyst. Any ideas on how to split up my portrait page to make the load time faster. It's slow as molasses.
Here is my site, it is my portfolio. Designed in Illustrator and done in FC. I made the contact form in Flash Pro. Let me know what you think. Tell me if it loads quick or slow. Also there seems to be a loading problem with the contact form. If anybody has a solution for it, please let me know.
Looks good - a little slow loading initially, but not too bad, although I have a very fast connection here.
On the contact form it appears that you have to click on the border (rather than in the open space) to activate the ability to type in input.
Thank you for the response. When you opened the contact page for the first time, was the contact form there or did you have to reload the site for it to appear??
The contact form was there - but input into the spaces was not immediately possible - as I said it appears that the border is the "clickable" part of the graphic, when I clicked in the open space it would not "activate" the input for the space. Clicking directly on the border was the only way to activate the input.
Made this the first weekend I had FC (it only took about 12 hours) -- what an amazing program! It also works on my friends Android phone, which I was shocked at -- wake up Steve Jobs, html5 is just not a designers tool (flash catalyst most certainly is). I cant imagine how painful this would have been to create using actionscript (three weeks at least I think) -- eesh.
Post more examples guys! Let's see some boundaries being pushed, this was only my first try, I can't wait to dive in again and create something even better!
And Adobe -- custom load bar tool please (already waiting for CS6)!!
Wow - very nice site and very nice designs too. I LOVE the chess set...keep up the great work!
Sarah, if you're thinking of getting it so you can make cool widgets to put into Captivate or Articulate, forget it. It doesn't work that way... I'm not sure WHAT you could do with it, except built WEB SITE wireframes
They should really change the advertising that says you can build Widgets with this... you can, but they don't work anywhere.
I bought it and love how it works, but am sorely disappointed with its usage possibilities.
Here's another final work
I would like to thank:
Chriswgriffith - man bible forum. always available. Thx Chris
Tanya Heins - For the best tutorial ever, contact form. Tanya thx
jtpuk (suz) - For help on portfolio (slideshowpro) amazing. Thx Suz.
>as you must have misunderstood my original question..
sorry yeh I indeed misunderstood you hehe
Hey man! You create this in Catalyst?
No way man! I can't believe it!
Can you explain how to create a gallery as You have in your site?
Or better, maybe you can to upload it somewhere, cause it interesting for all 1 I think
Thought I'd put my Flash Catalyst creation up here to see what people think. I have created a slideshow inspired by the bbc music site and have got it to look very simular to it. check it out here but for some reason wont work in ie9.
The layout was built in photoshop, but I used illustrator, flash, cinema 4d and flash builder.
About the gallery was constructed in slideshowpro player (flash) and thumbgrid 2. ( both are components to flash)
here is a link to see: http://slideshowpro.net/
thanks guys... it's really interesting
Here is an example designed within a few days of downloading FC.
Some of the images are a bit slow beacuse they are linked. I tried
an original with the images pre-linked and there was no apparent
difference in time.
Also I know more now and may revise the site.
This is FANTASTIC!!! You have inspired me... I am going to get my
lazy, candycane saturated rear in gear and redo my own site. I hope
you don't mind if I kind of copy off of your style.... it looks like
something I could do... I'm not a programmer, but a designer.
NICE HOUSES too... wish you could build mine. I'll take the pool as well,.
Really beautiful work, and a great inspiration to the designers out there!
I am a designer and wondered what you think to my first attempt at FC. In the construction stage for a client tho.
Also I built this in FC and now have the panini version, want to make it hug the browser which is a new feature, am no coder and panini is yet able to open old FC files, any idea when it will be able to or can someone help me on a work around?
Hope you enjoy, cheers.
Interesting design. Perhaps a bit too clever though, in that it takes a while to grasp the
mechanics. Consider that those who open it on this forum do so because they are curious
and want to see what you "promise" in your copy. May be not so with other audiences.
Hi everyone! I'm just getting started on my catalyst site, and I've had a few ideas up so far, but right now I've just got a "bare bones" idea
ready to go.
I have run into a problem a few times, and don't know how to fix it other than rasterizing my text, which is definitely not what I want to do. I find that on some computers, my text appears in full, and on others, it cuts off the text. I'm assuming this has to do with their screen resolution, but I don't want it to be a problem once I actually go ahead and make my site complete.
Does anybody out there have advice?
By the way, here is an example of my first site in Catalyst.
If you use a type style or font (for a headline, banner, etc.) that is not considered a universal font, i.e., Verdana, Georgia, Times, Helvetica, Arial and so on, you are safer to rasterize. Be sure to never use other than standard fonts for body text.
Other than that I don't know about the problem you're having.
I believe there is a way to "embed" any font you choose to use at publishing time, so that everyone will see the text as you do at home.
This is what I did on my site - it does increase the load times, but in my opinion it is worth it.
I ran into a problem with embeded fonts because my system accidentally dropped fonts (a setting on the FONTS folder set incorrectly) and when I updated a few pages on my site and published, the embeded fonts were substituted by the system.
Seals is a Killer site!
Each menu topic appears to open a new FC HTML page. Does FC open within another HTML program or site? The header and footer remain the same and the content opens between these two. If that's true, how is it done?

I know your original post was from a year ago but I just stumbled on this thread. I've designed two sites using FC and I've had a lot of fun with it. I'm currently working on two more. People really dig the interactive rollovers and animations. Here are the links...
My band's site: http://www.underwaterwindowgarden.com/
White Heron Grill: http://www.whiteherongrill.com/
I also designed a mobile friendly version of both sites for iphone and ipad users. And I added an automatic redirect for the iphone.
Thak you, Joe, these are amazing. I am still working on my site...
LOL... too many other hobbies in the way. But I will get to it.
I may start without Catylst, just to get something up with a clean
simple design, and then redo it in Catylst later... not sure.. wish me
This is my site. Done in Photoshop and Catalyst. This program is genius. I do however have a few issues though. I haven't had a chance to llok at it on a different monitor but everyone that goes to it says it's dark. Now, I have great eye sight, but it must be a problem if more than one person says so...right? Below is a screenshot from my monitor, of what it's supposed to look like. Is it different on yours? It's supposed to have a gray on black look, i hate white text. Also, someone said there was white space at the bottom of the about page? No one else seems to see them though?
Any feedback would be great, thanks
Thanks Rainy! Good luck and enjoy the process!
I was in HK a few years back but I must have missed Big Box. Very cool site!
The layout is nice and conceptually everything works great. But it's definitely very very dark on my screen and there is a big white outline around it. I'm viewing it on a 17" macbook pro and most of the text is illegible. The light gray headings are visible but the links and the content are not. You definitely gotta go much lighter. And the "limitless" and "nevermore" images are pretty dark as I'm sure they are anyway, but it might help to put a thin light border around the image box to help define the edges. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p216/duffey-bucket/Screenshot2011-03-18at120909PM.png
Also, the load time was pretty long. I cleared my cache and tried again and it wasn't a fluke. I'm sure it's because of the many images that you have on here. You might need to further compress all of your elements and images by right clicking them in the library pane within FC. It's not painfully long but it could probably be improved.
Thanks for sharing! I hope these comments help.
Thanks for the detailed reply, man. Your screenshot looks no different from what I see on my monitor, honestly. Not sure if that's an accurate comparison, or if my monitor is just lighter. It really looks fine to me. But yeah, about the white outline, is there any way to define a background image that's scalable to any size in FC? Or should I have made my file larger to begin with.
And yeah, I'm definitely working on compressing everything. Thanks again.
No problem. I've gotten great feedback from open forums so I'm glad to return the favor.
The most pain in the *** part about web design is the discrepancies between different monitor resolutions and browsers. I check my sites on all browsers on as many monitors as I can before going public. There is always gonna be differences.
As for the white outline... I publish my sites with Dreamweaver so I just set the background color and I'm all set. I guess it depends on what you're using to publish the site. You can also edit the code directly to set the background color to black. I'm only familiar with the applications that I use and I'm not a code guy, so I dunno.
Hello! First of all, thnak you for sharing your work! Keep on going. Second, when you are exporting for Air application, for desktop app., how can you mage the background to transparent if you have round corners, or your design is a different shape ?? I did import the fxp in Flash Builde, but i`m new in this and did not have a result ! Thank you !
Well it is definitely too dark on my monitor - most of the text is completely unreadable until highlighted. I think you may have your brightness and/or contrast settings set differently than most people. Or possibly your gamma settings are very different than normal? The screenshot you included looks identical to the site on my monitor - i.e. way too dark...I would examine my monitor settings and/or gamma settings in Photoshop if I were you.
Sorry to tell you this but I hope the info helps you...good luck!
BTW, I like your work - what I could see of it at least!
