1. Re: Missing Coldfusion 8 documentation
Newsgroup_User Sep 2, 2007 7:14 PM (in response to BKBK)how did you install cf8? replacing cfmx7? co-exist install? with
built-in server or over iis/apache?
i believe, if it did not install cf8 docs in cfdocs folder, you can
still access them through cf8 administrator... have you looked incf8
install dir for the cf8 docs?

No.
co-exist install?
No.
built-in server or over iis/apache?
Built-in.
have you looked incf8
install dir for the cf8 docs?
Yes. In fact that's where it started. When I open C:\Coldfusion8\cfdocs\dochome.html I find documentation for MX7.

Thanks for the clue. There is something there. The link in the Administrator,
http://127.0.0.1:8500/cfdocs/htmldocs/help.html
points to a non-existent page. I don't understand why. Perhaps the result of a previous CF8 installation? This is the third. it's either that, or something went wrong during installation. I am clearing out everything and reinstalling.

i think that's a good idea. it does sound like some sort of screw-up
during uninstall/install.
did you reinstall from the same source as before or did you download the
install file anew? just wondering if adobe is quietly changing the
downloadable install files from time to time... there has been quiet a
few posts with this and that feature of cf not installing/working
properly, to which others have testified that everything works fine on
their installations... i just remember noticing that most of these
'others' have downloaded cf8 as soon as it became available, while those
having problems seemed to have just recently downloaded their copies....

BKBK Sep 3, 2007 9:47 AM (in response to BKBK)Thanks Azadi and Paul. Your tips let me see that something was indeed wrong with my installation. I had also had doubts elsewhere.
After a complete clean-up and reinstallation, I can now access Coldfusion 8 documentation via
http://my_CF8_webroot/cfdocs/dochome.htm
or
http://my_CF8_webroot/cfdocs/htmldocs/help.html

ksmith Sep 4, 2007 6:11 PM (in response to BKBK)Perhaps you had a beta or RC version installed. The cf8 docs came with the release version. The pre-release versions came with cfmx7 documentation. -

Yes, I saw that. You confirm the scenario I now think might have occurred -- Coldfusion 8 installed in the Coldfusion8 directory of a previous Beta/RC version. That would also explain why I had display problems here and there.
