    png fix for css images

    Level 7
Hi - I have this page i am working on
      http://www.crackerjackpromotions.co.nz/2007/index3.php and the middle
navigation icons are png8. The only way i could get the text left icons
right and all clickable was to put the images as background css images. They
look fine in most browsers but the older ie ones do not display them
properly so I thought i could use the png fix but it seems to be only for
images that are in the html, not in the css....... Anyone know a way i can
      fix this?

      Thanks,

      Karen

Try this html instead of using icons as background images.

          <td width="27%" class="corporate"><a href="#">CORPORATE EVENTS <img
          src="myicon.png" width="20" height="20" alt="myicon"></a></td>

Hi Nancy - I have tried that but then i cannot get the icons to align right
and then text left plus have the whole lot clickable. When i make the a link
as display block it makes the image move down, hence the only way i have
managed to get what I need for the function and look is to have the icons as
bg css images. I guess i can just make the images gifs, but i was trying to
learn the png fix only to find I can't use it in this situation.

            Thanks for looking

            Karen

I can't think of a single reason why you would not be able to use it. Can
              you explain?

Hi Murray - well from your post I assume that what i want to do is possible
so all that is stopping me is a lack of knowledge :-)

I have tried to implement the fix using this info
                http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/
http://bjorkoy.com/past/2007/4/8/the_easiest_way_to_png/ but so far have not
                got it working....

                I will keep trying!

                Thanks,

                Karen

PNG transparency fix doesn't work on BG images.

                    • 7. Re: png fix for css images
                      Level 7
                      Hi Murray, the page is
                      http://www.crackerjackpromotions.co.nz/2007/index3.php

On the middle navigation the icons to the right of the text links are png
images with bg transparency. They look as they should in ie7 ff opera but in
older versions of ie they don't look right. Try looking in ie6 - I have made
the corporate events icon a gif (not the rollover though) and that looks
normal but the others don't. I could make all of them transparent gifs, but
my plan was to learn more about png and how to get the transparency to work
                      in older ie's.

The webfx fix i looked at first was for forground images
                      http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/pngbehavior/pngbehavior.html which wasn't for me.

Now i've been trying with info from these sites
                      http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/
                      http://bjorkoy.com/past/2007/4/8/the_easiest_way_to_png/

So i have my iepngfix.htc file uploaded with the path amended to my
blank.gif. Then in my css I have
                      img { behavior: url(iepngfix.htc); }

                      or i've currently just tried:
                      img, #wrapper2midnav td { behavior: url(iepngfix.htc) }

                      Plus other variations..

But so far the png images still look odd in ie6. I'm not even 100% sure it's
a transparency thing since i read that ie6 puts a grey box instead of the
transparent bit, but thats not what I'm getting, my png images just look
                      jagged edged and bitty.

Oko hope that explanation covers it!, thanks for looking,

                      Cheers,

                      Karen
