1. Re: Dual Layer 'Navigaion Failure' on DVD Build in Encore CS4
Bill Hunt Feb 19, 2010 9:18 AM (in response to jdmoor)JD,
I would scrap the Memorex blank discs, and use Verbatim instead. Memorex has a very unpopular business model - buy the absolutely cheapest media from whomever and emboss the Memorex label onto it. In spindles of 100, users have reported up to 4 different mfgrs. stuff. One might get 10 discs that work, and then 10 that flat do not. There are several utilities that will tell you who the actual mfgr. is and the lot number. I just use the free burning utility, ImgBurn, as it will read the blank disc and report.
Now, Memorex is an easy target for me, and one of the "usual suspects," so there could be something else going on. Just in case there is, please give the full details of your Project, with Asset types, specs., and how your navigation is setup, and especially the Layer Break.
Good luck,
Hunt

jdmoor Feb 19, 2010 10:00 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Hunt,
Thanks for the info. I'll pick up another brand and retry. If there
continues to be a failure, I'll report all specifics.
Thanks again,

Jon Geddes Feb 21, 2010 7:27 PM (in response to jdmoor)No, not just another brand... it must be Verbatim DVD+R DL, they are the most compatible discs by a long shot.
When burning Dual Layer DVD's, Verbatim is the only disc you should ever use.

Bill Hunt Feb 23, 2010 3:36 PM (in response to Jon Geddes)Jon,
That is all that I use, and have never had a failure, or a return. Now, I do many more DVD-5's, than DVD-9's, but I am on my third stack of 100 with the DVD-9's, and more than half-way through my second 1000 DVD-5's (Taiyo Yudens there), so the batting average is danged good. Zero returns, or failures.

Neil Wilkes Feb 25, 2010 4:47 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Another plus for Verbatim DL heretoo.
Must have run through more than I care to think about, and the only screwups were my fault.

Jon Geddes Feb 25, 2010 9:01 AM (in response to Neil Wilkes)Another important note... do not burn faster than 2.4x ... this is critical. Burning faster than 2.4x on a dual layer disc can often cause problems like freezing at the layer break and skipping on playback.
