    Contact Us template insertion?

      I DL'd a "contact us" template but don't know enough about html to insert it.  Can someone help me?  Here is my page code:

      <html>

          Hi,

          you really can't follow the installations-instructions of your template: http://www.freecontactform.com/free.php or didn't you see/find it?

          Hans-G.

            They don't give detailed instructions on placing the code - they assume you have that knowledge.

              Hi,

              once more (copied from http://www.freecontactform.com/free.php):

              Download Contact Form Lite (Version 1.0, September 2009)

              Installation Instructions
              ===========
              Step One:
              ===========
              Open the file 'lite_settings.php' using a code/plain text Editor.

              The file will look like this: -

              <?php

              $email_to = "youremailaddress@yourdomain.com"; // your email address
              $email_subject = "Contact Form Message"; // email subject line
              $thankyou = "thankyou.htm"; // thank you page

              ?>

              Enter your email address in replace of youremailaddress@yourdomain.com

              Change the email subject (if you like)

              Change your thank you page reference (if you like)

              Save the file.

              ===========
              Step Two:
              ===========
              Copy ALL files onto your website using an FTP program (filezilla for example)

              Job Done.

              My heart what do you want to have more?

              Hans-G.

                From their site:

                Want to incorporate the form into your own design?

                Copy the HTML from contactform.htm and paste it into your existing page.

                They don't say where to paste it into the code.  I've tried a bunch of ways but they all skew the images.

                  When I was starting out, I had similar problems.

                  I'd copy a bunch of code and just paste it into my web page without any consideration of where it was going.

                  Here's what you need to do:

                  Create a web page with all of your navigation, your header, your footer, the whole magillah.

                  Dreamweaver will call the page [whatever].html and that is the wrong extension, as you're using php code but we'll take care of that in a bit.

                  In Design View (actually you need to have your Dreamweaver window split so you can see both code and design) place your curser by using your mouse in the main content area where, in all the rest of your pages, all of the important content is. If you are using a Template, make a page from the template. If you're just making regular pages, have Dreamweaver do a Save As and then name the page contact.html

                  With your cursor where the main content goes, go up into the code view area in a split view and click where your cursor is. You will be within the div that is for your main content. Paste the code, then hit [F5] to refresh the design view.

                  You should see the form on your page.

                  All php scripts I have used or made for contact forms call another page to do the heavy lifting. So I create the "Heavy Lifting" page and try to give it a non-obvious name, like dweezle.html or alldone.html. That way the page name is not usually guessed and my statistics will show a number of page loads equal to the actual messages received.

                  Your php script should, on the second page actually send the mail to an email box and echo back a "thank you" or some useful information, like what the person writing the script actually wrote and "we'll get back to you soon!" You can see a couple of good examples of this on two contact pages I made at http://www.crittersittersct.com and http://www.clarkelandscapes.com Please don't send them any spurious messages.

                  I went through several versions of the contact php script and finally settled on one that works best and doesn't result in false positives, checks to make sure that all fields are filled out and results in good contact information for my clients.

                    There doesn't appear to be a div tag in my page code.  I followed your instructions but my page gets jumbled up like before.  I was actually doing exactly what you mentioned before your reply.  Maybe I can call the company who produced the template in the morning.  Thanks.

                      Hi shannonberry,

                      my suggestion: Give me / us a link to your relevant website and I/we try it of myself/ourselfes, ok?

                        Hi,

                        look here and tahe the source-code:

                        http://www.goldschmiede-blumberg.de/AdobTest/contactform/contactform.htm

                        ... and I copied really all the expanded files after changing the file 'lite_settings.php' in this directory: .../AdobTest/contactform/ and put them with FTP to my server

                        Hans-G.

                          That page does not have anything other than the contact form.

                          If you are trying to insert that into a website, you need to find the div that would hold the main content in your web page.

                          Also, once you have done that, you need to rename the extension of the page from .htm to .php. That way, your server will know that it has to interpret php code.

                            Hi,

                            forgotten the basic situation? I had to show, that there are no difficulties to use the template, This and That is given! But, if you mean I put a bit rubbish in it.

                            http://www.goldschmiede-blumberg.de/AdobTest/contactform/contactform.htm

                            Better now? Satisfied? And if shannonberry will give me his e-mail address, I will enter it into the form. shannon berry will be surprised how many e mails he will receive. At the moment, every e-mail lands at my account.

                            Hans-G.

                              My German is pretty much non-existent. But in English, you used the word "Insertion," so I thought the problem was that you could do the template but you were having trouble placing it within an all-ready formatted web page.

                              I think if you rename the page with the php extension the script should work.

                                Hi mhollis55,

                                it was "hannonberry" who used the term "insertion" and I for my part don't have any difficulties with the insertion of hannonberry's template, as you can see.

                                Hans-G.

                                P.S.

                                Sorry about my english, which is I am sure some more then xx-large years old.

                                  In order for the code to actually do something, you must change the page name's extension to .php from .htm

                                  Then it should work.

                                      It is   not very simple job. I have similar forms at my web site. If you want to make   them work by yourself you must do some coding and know php. However you can   use form creator for this purpose.
