What is Dreamweaver saying when you try to connect?
thanks for your quick response, but had to leave for awhile ... and multitasking ;-)
With Access set to FTP, and Host Dir set to public_html or public_ftp, I'm getting the following msg:
An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. No response from the server (may be due to one of the following reasons
1)firewall settings not properly set, and Use Firewall select check box
2)server may only accept passive or active FTP
3)if using IPv6 ...etc.
4)Firewall may be blocking incoming FTP data
5)possible non-standard FTP port
Well first off, the directory in a *nix environment should be public_html not public_ftp. The FTP folder holds another purpose which I won't get into.
This error suggests the address you are typing in is wrong or the FTP service is down/not running(your path is fine, ie: /public_html). Check with your host on what the address should be and to verify the service is running properly.
OK, not sure what the last blank
post was, but sent wquestions to hostong site and they corrected me on my login and I also made sure to put the forward slash in front of the public_html folder, so the test worked, but never found the upload command, and while looking for it was told to match something or other between Dreamweaver and the host site, and now the test doesn't work again ... any thoughts?
Are you sure the host is set to accept FTP transfers? Many FP sites have FTP disabled as using FTP to transfer files between a FP site will break the FP extensions. Are you sure there are no FP extensions that you need to worry about breaking?
To last answer ... no, this isn't a FP site anymore, I've redone all the file connections with Dreamweaver ...
Back to other issue, DW is stuck in a trying to connect mode and in the Site mgmt edit, I can't get back to the basic (Local Site) all I see is the remote (Advanced) section ...argh ...
OK ... to whoever's listening, got the host test to work again and out of the testing loop by redefining the site in DW, but still not seeing the Local settings under Site>mgmt>edit any thoughts?
OK, got with the Host site help folks and got the correct info from them (what you said i should check) ... and though I still had to beat on it awhile it uploaded just fine without any issues ...
thanks again 'SnakEyez02' for your quick response ... and I just needed a crash course in dream Weaving 101 ;-)
