It sounds like something with fonts, maybe font caches. You will find this possible issue/solution in list here: Other options . If that does not help, you may have another look at fonts, also in the list.
Illy is more particular than maybe all other applications. Are you positive that is has gone?
Uninstalling and reinstalling has little effect on issues like this, unless you Move the folder ; and if it works, it does so alone. You may also try that.
That is a lot of information unfortunate not about your system and hardware and software etc, perhaps you would like to assist us in helping you?
Hi - I don't see any Settings folder (as per your website advice).. (I have illustrator CS2)
Hi - I have a macbook Pro, 2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram running OS X 10.5.8
I tried deleting all traces of the new font in case this is the issue, and restarting but no joy.
Have also looked at the website with advice of the other post-er but don't have any Settings folder...
I just found an illustrator CS2 settings under my username and the Library there and moved the folder to the desktop (how many Libraries are there!?).
Then I managed to launch the app. Then closed it and re-installed the font, and the app launched again and I can use the font. So maybe it's not the font..
Have remembered - I did open a file that someone sent me (an ill CS2 file) the other week - maybe it's that that messed it up. Can you inherit settings form someone else's file??
I spoke too soon the same thing is happening again!!!
Quit Illustrator and all running applications remove the font.
Trash the same settings folder you did before.
RelaunchIllustrator and work with it keeping track of what you do and if it keeps working fine then do not reinstall the font and go back to the place where you got it and ask for a refund.
If it crashes again then create a new user account start working in Illustrator if all is fine, then install the font if all is still fine then you have some conflict on your computer and something was updated or changed since before it started crashing but as mentioned before it sounds like a font problem.
I shall try these things and get back to you in a few days with how it's looking.
This issue - Ill CS2 hanging on launch - started on my main computer 3 weeks ago. Dual G5 PPC, OS 10.4. Been running this daily for years, no problem, on both G4 laptop and the G5. Only Ill CS2 is problematic - the rest of the suite and all other software on the comuter work fine. I have done everything I can think of and have read, to rectify this one, to no avail. It still runs on my G4 laptop, thankfully, because this is my work, what I use all day every day.
G5: 2 internal drives, one was just used as backup. After unsuccessfully trying all sorts of pref deletions, trashing this folder and that, per forum recommendations, moving fonts, disabling Suitcase Fusion, repair permissions, I loaded fresh OS10.4 on to the 2nd drive (was 10.3, though never booted from it before). New install of CS2 suite (fully uninstalled from other drive first). Ill CS2 worked for 1-1/2 days and then.... same thing - hanging on launch. Disabled Suitcase Fusion, moved all fonts out of user fonts folder, diagnosed fonts with Suitcase, Fontdoctor, FontBook. Ran TechTool Pro advanced suite of tests, everything passed. Manually uninstalled & reinstalled twice - the full monty per adobe's posted instructions. After the last CS2 reinstall it launched once, but after quitting the app, it hasn't launched again - just that spinning beachball. The splash screen hangs during loading fonts, so that was where I really concentrated to narrow down & eliminate possibilities. The laptop runs the same software, same fonts, same files, but I immediately stopped any updates of anything on it in case that is the cause of this.
Just heard 2 days ago from a colleague that CS2 had recently stopped running on both his computers (Macs) and he had to buy CS4 to continue working.
I called Adobe's pay per incident line and was pretty much cut short with the comment that they don't support CS2 and longer, buy the CS4 upgrade (!). A very short phone call, I was stunned.
I do own CS4, but I haven't loaded it because it won't run on the G4 laptop, and my main clients only run CS2. I would like to avoid having to remember to save down every single document I produce.
I called Apples' pay for help line and was also cut short almost immediately with the comment that it sounds like a software issue, call Adobe. I tried to explain my reasons why I thought it might no be just Adobe and might be tied in to Apple's software, but was again told to call Adobe, goodbye have a nice day.
I have been wondering if there is some Apple software update (security update, java, safari, whatever) that might have triggered this. I have been running the same thing on the same computer with the same set of software for quite a while - no new software, only updates.
Will try reinstalling the OS again this weekend, but I reached my wit's end over a week ago and had to leave it alone and concentrate on working off my poor slow underpowered laptop (the little engine that could) and get back to my own work. There has to be an answer to this, but it has eluded me so far.
That is more than likely the answer others have posted this and they are now working fine.
Holy frijoles! Do my eyes deceive me? Illustrator CS2 just launched successfully! I'll see if it stays working, but THANK YOU for posting that link!!!
To you and the other folk who have posted - thankyou - and I will get onto trying all that you suggest asap (my company just told me I am posted abroad so all is chaos right now!); should be latest mid next week so look forward to hopefully resolving this thing.
I also called Adobe and got the brush off that I didn't have CS4 so no phone support but didn't of course feel like being pushed into buying a new version.
Perhaps this did seem too good to be true - Illustrator finally launches, but now is unable to save either new or existing documents - "an unknown error has occurred". Any ideas?
Sounds like a permissions problem. Try fixing them first.
I discovered my remnant issue - fonts. Back when I thought the original problem might be font related, I had moved entire font folders on to the desktop in an effort to narrow down where the problem was. After applying the fix posted here I found I was able to save a file with only shapes, but not if there was any text. Looked at the font menu and realized there were only about 6 fonts in the font menu and remembered that I had moved most of my fonts to the desktop. I just moved them back in their rightful place and and voila! It all seems to work once again.
Thank you again for the posts.
Can't wait for my hair to grow back after pulling so much of it out.....
