Is there any way Adobe Illustrator can perform pattern recognition? For example I have a few JPEG and TIFF images with a lot of line drawings. Tracing them with the pen tool is probably going to take days for each image. Can Illustrator automatically trace out the prominent lines? I've heard from many people that Illustrator can, but nobody could give me the details on the way to do it (since they themselves have heard it from someone probably!). Neither could I locate it in the Illustrator help. Is this just a rumor, or can Illustrator actually do pattern recognition?
Thanks in advance!
There is a feature called Live Trace, but it hasn't always done very well
in my experience. Maybe I just don't have enough skill with it yet.
Can someone else here claim good results using it? If so, are there any
good resources on the web showing proper settings/techniques?
Thanks, Live Trace is doing it quite well! Although, it says that it is
creating a vector image, I am being unable to edit the traced lines. I wonder if
that is something quite common...
But thanks again....
make sure you click "expand" to apply the trace. After that you should be
able to edit as a vector.
