Luke Flegg Mar 3, 2010 6:46 PM (in response to shooternz)I really tried hard in my post to emphasise that I'd tried that.
but thanks.
Unless you mean something else to what I described I tried? You don't give much information.

3. Re: Can you decide which track to paste a clip into?
Bill Hunt Mar 3, 2010 6:55 PM (in response to Luke Flegg)If you have Targeted the appropriate Track, and it still Pastes to another, there is something very wrong.
Are you Targeting the appropriate Track by clicking on the Track's Header? If this is not working for you, then just Lock all other Tracks, and it WILL Paste where you have the CTI and in the un-Locked Track. If this works, but Targeting the Track does not, I would immediately do a Repair Installation, as something is smurfed.
Good luck,
Hunt

I thought it fairly simple instruction for a simple process... but here is some more then:
Did you UNtarget the other tracks; like the one you are copying from?

5. Re: Can you decide which track to paste a clip into?
Bill Hunt Mar 4, 2010 9:21 AM (in response to shooternz)To add to what Craig is saying, Targeted Tracks will display in a different color, than Un-Targeted Tracks. Check the Track Headers, and you can easily, and quickly see which Tracks are Targeted. In CS4, one can Target Multiple Tracks, so you will want to Un-Target the other Tracks.
Good luck, and if this is still not working, something is hosed in the program.

6. Re: Can you decide which track to paste a clip into?
Luke Flegg Mar 4, 2010 11:26 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks Bill- I do know what you're saying (trained people on Prem for a few years myself)
Selecting the right track isn't my issue, I've tried having targetted
a) the track I want to paste into
b) none of the tracks
c) several
None of these options had any effect.
Anyway, turns out it was just a temporary problem that has transitioned me into to TOTAL HELL with Premiere! and all has gone awry in a way I have never before experieced in my rocky ~7 years working with premiere
Instead of trying to explain in text, I made a youtube video in case that's more useful:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfLr9CPqFaw
Essentially Prem is crashing as a result of almost nothing.

Luke Flegg Mar 4, 2010 11:34 AM (in response to Luke Flegg)Also, here's a screengrab including the ugly intestines of CS4... Dr. OverLord...

I would be so grateful if anyone can steer me closer to the answer on why I'm having such a nightmare with prem..
The only abnormal thing about this new computer is that I've messed about with Windows Media Player (some time ago though now, before I had any issues like this. I just wanted to roll it back to v.11 which I now regret as it's a very complex and unpredictable procedure that didn't work for me)
