    D11 has stopped working.

    gresh Level 1
      OK, I give up.
D11 has been running ok for a couple of days. Started up PC (XP) this morning and tried to open Director 11. I was horrified to see this again.
      >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
      Director.exe - Application Error.
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc....) will now close...
      >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Reinstalled it a couple more times -- it installs ok but won't start. Last time I reinstalled XP it ran ok, so I know an OS reinstall will fix it, but....

Life's too short -- I can't be bothered with this.

Since you did bother posting, I take it you will bother checking for any
          replies..

Eitherway, the fist thing you should try in such a case, and this goes for
any director version, is to remove all third party Xtras from the director's
Xtras folder, and try launching director again.
Note that when uninstalling Director, any Xtras added after installation
won't be removed. Therefore, when reinstalling, the Xtras will be right
where you left them - and Director will try to initialize them again.

Amazing how a couple of beers can help.
Just in case D11 does it again -- reinstalled XP on a small boot partition.
Since this is the only Adobe app on this computer -- what can go wrong now? :-)

It must be 5 o'clock somewhere, right? ;-)

You'll have to wait and see...

This is difficult to believe, but in my case, installing the trial version of Corel Graphics Suite X4 is definitely the problem.
                If it's installed, D11 won't run.
                Uninstall it, D11 runs ok.
Tried it 3 times to verify it. I didn't have to remove traces of Corel from the registry, uninstalling was enough to make D11 run ok.

I'm presuming that Adobe and Corel use the same activation mechanism, and there is a conflict somewhere.

I have both Director 11 and Corel Graphics Suite X4 installed on my computer
with no conflicts or problems - both run fine. My OS is Windows Vista
                  Ultimate 64-bit.

Interesting -- The conflict is definitely there on my setup -- XP 32bit
                    Just installed X4 again -- D11 won't start.
                    took X4 off -- D11 starts.
Clean Windows install with nothing else on the PC.
On this PC, Corel Graphics Suite X4 is definitely the reason for D11 not starting.
When I get time I will try the combination on a Vista PC and see how I get on.

                      Update --
Have tried this combination on two other computers.
On Vista 32bit notebook -- D11 and Corel Graphics Suite X4 are both ok.
On XP(SP2) 32bit notebook -- D11 will not run if X4 is installed.

Answer :: Ditch Corel like so many of us did around a decade ago!!

Thanks for your practical reply. At the moment I'm closer to ditching the other product in question.

No answer yet? Geeez, I've just installed D11 on my new Vista SP2 pc and it crashes immediately with a 'Director has stopped working'. It seems like yesterday that just I upgraded to 11, do I have to upgrade to 11.5 now to get Vista SP2 support? What gives?
