1. Re: the live automation writing can't keep up with mute on/off or efx on/off...bad bad bad
_durin_ Mar 4, 2010 11:05 AM (in response to Ned43)Try playing with the parameters under Edit > Preferences > Multitrack > Automation Options.
Here's a bit from the manual:
- Automation Optimizations
- Contains options that determine how automated mix parameters are recorded. (See Techniques for automating mixes.)
- Automatch Time
- Determines how fast parameters return to original values in the Touch or Latch modes. You can set values from 0.00 to 5.00 seconds; the default value is 1.00 second.
- Linear Edit Point Thinning
- Removes any edit points that represent static, unchanging parameter settings.
- Minimum Time Interval Thinning
- Creates edit points with intervals larger than the specified time value. Enter an interval between 1 and 2000 milliseconds in the Minimum Time field.

2. Re: the live automation writing can't keep up with mute on/off or efx on/off...bad bad bad
Ned43 Mar 4, 2010 7:23 PM (in response to _durin_)Hello Durin thanks for the response.
I should have mentioned that I have played with these settings a good amount, but nothing seems to work, although admittedly I don't understand what these settings are adjusting as it's not really in plain english.
I put the automatch time at "0" because I figured that might make it be able to record the faster on/off automation, but that didn't work, I also messed with all the other settings but I have no idea what is effecting what.
Oh Wait, here I just thought of something, let me try to show you what the problem is, lets use mute on/off automation as an example:
When I try to record the mute on/off's live, here's what happens:
When I hit: Mute on then Mute off and then press stop, the envelope will look like this: |_| and it is perfect, it mutes precisely where I told it to and returns to On exactly where I told it to.
BUT, when I try to perform this operation twice within 3 seconds or so...the resulting envelopes are inaccurate and look like this: V V ...so the effect is that it's not a hard mute but rather fades in and out, same thing with efx on/off.
What I would be eternally grateful for is if you know WHICH SETTINGS effect the speed with which you can record automation settings, like for instance allowing me to turn mute on/off 3 times in a matter of 5 seconds....and also in which way to adjust the settings (up or down).
I have definetly messed with the settings a good deal and the only way I can get it to produce the proper envelope concurrent with how I actually performed the "mute on/off" is to do one envelope at a time, press stop, then play and record the next envelope.
thanks for any help you can provide!

3. Re: the live automation writing can't keep up with mute on/off or efx on/off...bad bad bad
Ned43 Mar 6, 2010 4:25 AM (in response to _durin_)my time estimates were a bit off...even if I try to make 2 envelopes within 7 or 8 seconds they will usually be off, if you wait long enough in between envelopes then you can write more then 1 envelope in one take and they will be accurate, sometimes.

Ned43 Mar 10, 2010 4:20 AM (in response to _durin_)low and behold I messed around enough with the controls to make some difference, seems to be much more accurate now, I just wish new how and why. any other descriptions of those automation parameters under preferences?
thanks!
