Tai Lao Mar 4, 2010 7:17 PM (in response to debwarr3)Make sure your ACR plug-in is updated to ACR 5.6.

2. Re: Bridge CS4 no longer reading Raw files after reinstalling PS CS4
debwarr3 Mar 4, 2010 7:45 PM (in response to Tai Lao)If this is the same thing as Adobe Camera Raw 5.6 (I'm assuming it is), I've done this, both by downloading directly from Adobe's site and through the Adobe updater in Bridge. When I tried to install ACR 5.6 again, I received an error message that I already have it, but when I check the version of Camera Raw on Bridge CS4, it's only 5.0. I don't know why the update doesn't seem to "stick". Any suggestions?

Of course it is.

You obviously have a bad installation of the Camera Raw plug-in.
You need to remove the ACR 5.0 plug-in, which somehow you did not remove when installing 5.6, and instal 5.6 in the correct location. Read the Camera Raw update instructions again, very carefully. The location is detailed exactly. Note that you start with the ROOT LEVEL Library, NOT your user library.
This screen shot is from an earlier post and it shows Camera Raw 5.1 installed. The path is the same for ACR 5.6. Note that you can only have one instance of the Camera Raw plug-in installed per version of Photoshop (5.6 for CS4, 4.x for CS3, 3.x for CS2) each in its respective folder.
Command-click on the thumbnail to see the image at full size in a new web browser window.

debwarr3 Mar 5, 2010 7:40 AM (in response to Tai Lao)Thank you for the screen shot. That was very helpful in making sure the file was installed properly. It is now and I am at least able to open the files in PS CS4, but the thumbnails are still whited out on Bridge. Bridge shows it is using ACR 5.6, but it's still not reading the images. Earlier, I followed some directions from another forum post and purged my cache in Bridge. Could this be the issue now, and if so, what do I do to correct it? Thank you for all your help.

debwarr3 Mar 5, 2010 7:58 AM (in response to debwarr3)I just purged the cache again and now the thumbnails have been restored. So, at least all looks good for now. I may never delete another Adobe program again!
Thanks for the help.

Omke Oudeman Mar 5, 2010 10:17 AM (in response to debwarr3)It is mostly a very bad idea to delete complex applications manual to the
trash instead of using the proper uninstaller (and Adobe has such function)
for it.
Always read the manual or help fill first about uninstall before you take
action...
I may never delete another Adobe program again!

debwarr3 Mar 5, 2010 10:27 AM (in response to Omke Oudeman)Actually, as I mentioned in my first post, I did use Adobe Uninstall, and I read the manual prior to uninstalling, but the problem occurred anyway.

Omke Oudeman Mar 5, 2010 1:38 PM (in response to debwarr3)Sorry, mostly using email to read and answer the forum, did only look at
your last post.
PSE 8 seems to use the same version of Bridge CS4, prior versions did have
kind of light version of Bridge as I always understood. But you are right
that uninstalling one of the applications should not affect the others.
BTW, the updater in CS4 is doing a good job compared to prior versions so
you might want to rely on this only and not combine it with manual installs.
Also when Bridge start acting other then before always first try the reset
preferences procedure with holding down option key while restarting Bridge
Actually, as I mentioned in my first post, I did use Adobe Uninstall, and I
read the manual prior to uninstalling, but the problem occurred anyway.

9. Re: Bridge CS4 no longer reading Raw files after reinstalling PS CS4
debwarr3 Mar 5, 2010 3:10 PM (in response to Omke Oudeman)Thanks for your help, that's a particularly good suggestion about Bridge. I'll try it next time I have any issues. I used the installer on all three pieces of software (PS CS4, Bridge CS4 and PSE8), but it didn't work, so that's why I had to do it manually. Also, there were directions on the download site about not using the installer for PSE8 (I have both this and PS CS4), so I thought I had to do that one manually. However, when I went to the application PSE8 seems to be using the installer now, so who knows? Anyway, hopefully this will be the last time I'll need to do this for a while. I'm very thankful to the nice people on this forum for helping me out of a bind!
