    Field order in NTSC DVD

    Howard Hoffman Community Member

I am using Adobe Premiere and Encore.

In Encore, NTSC DVD field order is set to lower and can't be changed.

The source is from Canon AVCHD, which Media Info shows as TPP (upper).

The encoder has a choice for lower or upper, with lower as the default.

Should I use upper to match source?

If not, does the encoder simply shift  one frame to convert upper to lower?
How would this affect the video quality?

Does Encore support TPP DVD automatically?

      thanks!

Correct handling of any such files should merely hinge on proper interpretation of the source assets. Technically, MPEG-2 DVD is always lower first, there is only an upper field first flag that may be used on PAL and would then be handled by the player.
