Google Maps and Flash: How to structure my project?

Hey guys I'm fairly new to flash (not to programming), I've stayed away from actionscript for the most part, I don't know why.  But I'm interested in creating a google map in flash of every nba player's hometown location incrementally across the last couple decades.  I'm not going to be doing data scraping so I'll manually be gathering the data points like "hometown", "college", as well as "points per game", "position" and other statistics like that.  The idea is, you can see where every active player in the nba is from, then filter by position, and even see where the "best" players come from (these are by button press or checked box parameters).

My question is, how would you guys suggest about structuring my code?

If it were any other language I might set up something like a 2d array to store a name and the corresponding stats and locations.  I'm not sure how to do this in flash though.

Any suggestions as to how I can store these files (is there an external file type I can store it all at for easier reading?)?
