    Photoshop CS4 3D render quality

    MDenver Community Member

Is it possibe to increase the number of polygons of the basic 3D models in Photoshop CS4?  I would like to use them in 2D, but the low number of polygons makes them look too bad for my purposes.  I looked everywhere on the net for the last hour but couldn't find an answer. I know it's not a 3D modeling application (that's what I use a different application for), but it would be useful if I can use those models without having to open a different program.

Subdivision is handled in a modeler, not Photoshop.

Shock!: it only takes an hour to look everywhere on the net?!!

At my old age I'm not interested in your childish jokes and neither am I waiting for people acting like a smartass just because I have 1 post by saying "Subdivision is handled in a modeller, not Photoshop" when I clearly stated that I own a program in which I do my modeling, unless you think I use it to write letters to some far away friend.

I'm not talking about importing models, I'm talking about Photoshop's basic 3D models. Photoshop creates these models with a certain subdivision and it's not uncommon based on my experience over the years with other applications with limited 3D capabilities to have at least a way to control subdivision.

C'mon, you need to grow a thicker skin! Misunderstandings on forums are quite common and there is no need to let them turn into exchanges of personal insults. Marian's wittyness is actually quite charming... Anyway. You can get better subdivision by replacing the template files used for some of the objects. They are stored in the program's folder as Collada files:

              C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Meshes

You fail to understand that I don't know your "witty and charming Marian", for me she is a perfect stranger and just like in real life, you try to keep  comments like she made to yourself to avoid the misunderstanding that you mentioned. I have actually a thick skin, but not with people I never met and who start with nonsense from square one, especially when I just finished saying that I struggled for an hour to find an answer for my problem. Place yourself in my position, instead of just trying to back her up because you know her longer than me. And I didn't insult her, I just pointed out my personal observations.

I do thank you for your excellent help.

Perhaps you forgot that you said that I acted like a smartass and offered a childish comment.

It is true that I missed that you were referring to the default objects within Photoshop. I should read more carefully. But knowing how you insult people that attempt to offer help, I won't bother reading your further posts so we won't run into this problem again.

As Mylenium noted, if you are to replace the default templates with your own models, you'll need to use your modeller found in another true 3D program.
