Try launching the application by right-clicking the Illustrator.exe and then choosing 'Run as Administrator". See if that helps.

Do you, by any chance, use a 2 monitor setup some of the time with yourIinsprion? I had this same problem, and realized that a dialog box was open on the "other screen", even when I was not connected to it. Hope this works for you. I tried all the other solutions you did, including uninstalling printers, etc. Good luck.
No. I use just one monitor. I use a drawing tablet but it is turned off so it's not that. I am really frustrated that I can't save a native file in Illustrator! How strange!
I am all so having saving trouble. I got it to save three things in the last six months. I do not have anything new on my computer, so I know it is not from that.
Do you try trashing the preference file?
I guess Illustrator does not work all that well with Windows 7. So, that means if I want to save any work on that program I will have to spend $200.00 more to update to a CS5. That is not cool!
