    Artwork in various sizes

    KC29 Level 3

I know a way of doing this which is slightly hit-and-miss, so I'm hoping someone can tell me a more precise way of doing it.

I was sent artwork in CS3 which was A1 size - it included vector objects, an embedded image, and bleed off all sides.

From the A1 version, I needed to resize it to  A2, A3 and A4

What I was doing was to drag the original A1 into an A2 (or A3) sized document and move it around until it was correctly positioned in the space. Is there a more "technical" way of doing that rather shuffling it around like that?

          KC,

          You may:

          1) Add a no fill/no stroke rectangle enclosing the lot and centred at the centre of the A1,

          2) Copy everything, paste and centre on the A2, scale down, and adjust bleeds,

          3) Repeat for A3 and A4 (starting from 1) or 2)).

Luckily, the raster images prefer scaling down.

Jacob, thanks for that. I'd almost got that far, but a few problems crop up

            2) Copy everything, paste and centre on the A2, scale down, and adjust bleeds

Centering the artwork on the smaller version isn't that easy (unless there's a command which I'm unaware of). It comes back to my original hit-and-miss approach.

            And likewise,

            scale down

Doing that by hand is a bit imprecise unless I use the Object > Transform > Scale tool, but then I'd need to calculate what percentage the reduction is

              KC,

I apologize for the incomplete answer.

              The centre is at:

              A2: X;Y = 210;297

              A3: X;Y = 148.5;210

              A4: X;Y = 105;148.5

              The scaling should be:

              A1 > A2: 594/841

              A2 > A3: 420/594

              A3 > A4: 297/420

You may use those multiplied by 100.

Another way of placing could be to place the lower left corner at X;Y = -bleed;-bleed, using the current bleed value.

                Jacob, thanks for your replies

As a result of what you've said, I realised that they key to centering the a/w on a new document is extremely obviouscentre.jpg

But it's amazing how you can sometimes overlook the obvious

                  You are welcome, KC.

True, as prooved by my failing to consider mentioning it.

Still, you need to know where the centre of the Artboard is, which is easier over here where we are used to the A formats. Are you over here or over there?

Here or there..... it depends where you are starting from

I'm in England (Nottingham) so I work in A sizes and millimetres
