Encore2.0 - delete avi but can still build DVD disc

      Hi Encore users,

I was able to build a DVD disc after deleting the original avi file from its source folder (not in the Encore project panel).  I am submitting this thread to ask how is this possible.  I read the Encore 2.0 User Guide and did not find an explanation for why this scenario is possible.  See below for details and questions.  I appreciate any input you can provide.

      STEPS:

      1. Create a video project in Adobe Premiere Pro, export project to DV-AVI.

      2. Import DV-AVI into Encore and transcode.

      3. Import menu and create playlists and complete the Encore project.

      4. Build DVD / DVD Disc and all works as expected.

      5. Time goes by, I delete the original avi file that was exported via Adobe Premiere Pro.  I DO NOT, however, delete the avi from the Project Panel of Encore.

      6. When I open Encore, there is no indication that anything is wrong with the items in my project panel.  I was expecting that the avi in my Encore project panel would be labeled as "offline" or that I would receive a "Locate Asset" dialog box because the original avi had been deleted.

          - QUESTION #1: Why was my avi in my Encore project panel not labeled as "offline?"

      7. In Encore, I Check Project and everything is fine.

      8. In Encore, I am able to successfully do a Build DVD / DVD Disc.  The quality of the video on the DVD looks exactly the same as when I originally built the DVD discs (step 4).

          - QUESTION #2: Was I able to build the DVDs because the avi had already been transcoded and Encore still has all the files it needs to complete this process?  Is there any reason I need to keep the original avi file, or can I delete the original avi file as long as I do not change anything in the Encore project panel?

      Thanks so much,

      Angela
