Which release and which player/browser? Try it with Flex 4, but don't use
Firefox 3.6.x. The mouse up off stage should be detected correctly.

I am using Flex 3 and testing in FireFox 3.6, IE 6 and IE 8 and Chrome (
The flex swf file is placed inside
tag in html page which also
includes other elements.
The drag is initiated using dragManager.doDrag, the drag got struck while
moving the mouse outside the stage and releasing on the html area of that
page. This error happens on all browsers. In Firefox the dragged image(not
the cursor) seems to be restricted inside the stage, but in IE the dragged
image simply disappears once the mouse leaves the stage.
If you are using Flex 3.0, move to Flex 3.5
