Cannot copy text or search for some fonts - get gibberish

    davidsanger

Using this file from the Copyright Office with Adobe Reader 9.3.1 on Mac 10.6.2 Snow Leopard:

      http://www.copyright.gov/title17/circ92.pdf

I can only copy and paste some of the text. Other text  turns to odd characters when used in the find box or copied to a Mac app.

This text on the cover:  "Copyright  Law of the United States" , comes out empty boxes like this:

      "                                                                      "

The words also don't show up in a search.

If I copy the text to Microsoft Word it shows the same boxes but identifies the font as "TheMixExtraBold-Plain"

Document Properties>Fonts shows that font as (Embedded Subset) Type:Type 1 (CID) Encoding: Identity-H

      However with the text above it "c i r c u l a r 9 2" I can search and cut and paste fine.

      That text is "Minion-RegularSC" and

Document Properties>Fonts shows that font as (Embedded Subset) Type:Type 1 Encoding: Roman

Oddly, when printing the page both fonts show up fine.

The same problem occurs in  Mac Preview.

Document Properties>Description says the file was created by Adobe InDesign CS2 (4.0.4)

      ---

How can I copy paste and search this document?
