I am using a Lumix GF1 and shooting in black & white and raw. I have the latest Adobe Camera Raw Program (5.6, I think), Photoshop CS4 and Bridge. I upload the images from the camera to my pc using Bridge. They appear in Brdige one-by-one in black & white. After the last image, Bridge converts them all to color automatically -- and I can't figure out how to stop it. Can anyone help me? This only happens to the raw images, not the jpegs.
There is no such thing as a "black and white raw" image or image file. The B&W is just a tag in metadata that tells the camera software to show you a b&w image, but the raw file wll always have the full color information.
Camera Raw by design ignores the proprietary b&w tag set by your camera.
You can always convert to grayscale in Camera Raw.
What Bridge shows you initially, for an instant, is the b&w JPEG preview embedded by the camera in the image file, then Camera Raw builds a true preview of the actual raw file, which is always in full color.
thank you -- really, thank you -- because this makes perfect sense to me
now -- but i've already spent two hours online and couldn't find this
