Fw CS3 has 20 undo steps by default.
Fw CS4 has 200.
(Edit > Preferences > General > Maximum Undos > Set number here)
Perhaps performance decreases because Fw remembers too many steps at a time? Try lowering the value from 200 to 20 or 50 or a similar, lower number.
Let me know after that if it worked for you!
Hi Michel. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to fix the problem. I'm actually down to 5 undo steps
Not sure if this helps but I work across two screens and eventually it gets to a point where every little click will flash the screen for a split-second. Eventually, the screen stops rendering with a giant "Not enough memory error" until I exit and restart. So it seems like some sort of memory leak.
I believe that I can help you, and you can help make Fireworks CS4 better!
Please, email Bruce Bowman: bbowman at adobe dotcom
Here is Fireworks product manager, and he is currently looking for people willing to test a bug fixing/performance improvement patch for Fireworks CS4!
I think that your case is exactly what he needs -- you start working with Fireworks CS4, undo steps are set to a moderate low number, and yet, after a few hours work, Fireworks CS4 becomes very slow and performance deterioriates; also you see NOT ENOUGH MEMORY errors, and believe me, we all love these errors so much!!
So if you can join the beta testers for Fireworks CS4 Patch, you will help Fireworks, but also, chances are that your issue might be taken care of, and Fireworks CS4 will become a better tool for you!
Thanks a lot!
Btw -- more testers for CS4 patch are needed, so if you (anyone reading these forums):
1) Use Fireworks CS4 every day, and a lot,
2) Have issues with Fireworks CS4 -- slow performance, NOT ENOUGH MEMORY bugs, INTERNAL ERRORs, etc.,
3) Are willing to spend some time testing a Fireworks CS4 patch that will address some of these issues, and log a bug or two,
Then please, contact Bruce Bowman!
I'll gladly help. Thanks!
Contact Bruce so that he can enroll you into the CS4 patch program! Then you will be able to log bugs that will show your problem with performance, internal errors, NOT ENOUGH MEMORY, etc. And hopefully, at least some of these issues could be addressed!
