Fast forward function with a VideoElement

    jcastelain

      Hi all,

This question might seem a bit off topic or even slightly dumb but it's something I've been asked to do and I just thought I'd ask to be sure.

I'm working on a basic application that displays a progressive  video (delivered over  HTTP -- correct me if I'm wrong), and I'd like to know if it would be possible to "fast forward" this video (I'm using the code in the OSMF svn trunk).

If you have examples, tips, it would be even better.

      Thanks for your help,

      Julien

In theory this should be possible (I've implemented this against NetStream before), but I don't think anyone has tried it with OSMF.   You'd have to ensure that the part of the video you're fast-forwarding through has been downloaded though.  The fast-forward operation would need to do a fast sequence of small seeks (based on a Timer).  This is much easier with streaming videos, particularly if they're streaming from the latest FMS (which includes support for stepping forward or backward N frames at a time).
