I have a site I'm taking over maintenance for. The client gave me the server info from his previous web person who used Dreamweaver on Windows. Following the screen shot, the folder the site resides in is /public_html/, so I enter that into my Dreamweaver (Mac CS3) window, and the l/ changes into what looks like a l with a short diagonal cross line in it. I can then type / but that leaves the odd l character. I insert the cursor before the / and hit delete to remove the extra / in the hopes that the l/ will look correct, but the second / merges into the l and keeps that odd character.
Has anyone else had this behavior? I'm wondering what to do here. This is preventing me from downloading the site files.
In setting up the site, you shouldn't use the / at the end of the root folder name.
It should be just site name "example.com". Users\Sites\sitename.com would be a typical file path to the root folder in Finder.
Is this where you're running into the error?
Nope, my "error" was that the hosting name and password had been changed from what was supplied to me. So I'm sure this is all moot now.
They need to update the username and pw and send me the info. It wasn't the path that was giving issues. Sheesh.
